  • Hip Replacement Options at OrthoColorado Hospital

Hip replacement surgery is considered for people suffering from arthritic hip pain that severely limits the activities of daily living. It is only recommended after careful examination and diagnosis of your particular joint problem, and only after more conservative measures such as exercise, physical therapy and medications have proven ineffective.

    Hip Replacement Services Offered:

    • Anterior Approach Hip Replacement
    • Total Hip Replacement
    • Partial Hip Replacement
    • Hip Resurfacing

    Anterior Approach Hip Replacement

A relatively new approach to hip replacement in the United States, anterior approach hip replacement is a unique muscle-sparing procedure that uses the natural muscle at the front of the hip to access the hip joint and insert a hip prosthesis. This allows the surgeon to simply move the muscles that surround the hip joint, typically causing less trauma than traditional techniques since the muscles are not cut.

Short and long-term benefits to the patient with an anterior approach include:

    • Shorter recovery time
    • Faster return to normal activity and function
    • Less blood loss
    • Less scarring
    • More mobility
    • Greater stability

Dr. William Peace, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon with Panorama Orthopedics and Spine Center, performs the anterior approach hip replacement at OrthoColorado Hospital. He has received numerous honors for his research and work and has written several chapters for medical textbooks on orthopedic topics. He often speaks on the anterior approach at community seminars.
